NGP Capital Adds Dr. Homaira Akbari, Charles Carmel and Dr. Matthew Diamond to Distinguished Group of Advisors

Dr. Homaira Akbari is President and CEO of AKnowledge Partners, and serves on the Board of Directors of several Fortune 500 companies including Banco Santander, Gemalto, Landstar System and Veolia. Dr. Akbari has held senior management roles in Microsoft, Thales, and Liberty Media subsidiary Trueposition. She was president and CEO of SkyBitz, an IoT company which she successfully sold to Telular Corporation. She has a Ph.D. in particle physics from Tufts University and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon. Based in New York City and Dallas, she joins NGP as an Advisor focusing on smart mobility and enterprise software.

Charles Carmel joins NGP Capital to bolster the Intelligent Enterprise efforts at the global venture firm. Charles has over 20 years-experience as a technology investor, executive and advisor. After starting his career at Goldman Sachs, he spent over a decade at Cisco where he acted as Vice President and Head of Corporate Development leading more than 30 acquisitions totalling over $20 billion and overseeing a $2 billion venture investment portfolio. Charles then spent several years as a Partner at Warburg Pincus focused on growth investing across the Enterprise technology sector. He is currently active as an investor, advisor and board member at a number of emerging growth companies and investment firms. Charles brings deep insights to NGP Capital and the investing efforts in networking technology, security, edge computing and predictive analytics.

Dr. Matthew Diamond joins NGP Capital in the digital health practice, bringing more than 20 years of experience in the biomedical industry, including at hospitals, multiple start-ups with successful exits, and large corporations. Dr. Diamond earned his MD and PhD degrees at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and maintains dual board certification in rehabilitation medicine and sports medicine; he serves on the faculty at New York University. Dr. Diamond is the Chief Medical Officer at Nokia Technologies and holds numerous industry leadership roles, including as Vice Chair of the Health and Fitness Technology Division Board of Directors of the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). He has taken a leading role in establishing standards for consumer health and fitness technology, including wearables, in the US and internationally. Dr. Diamond is currently based in Boston.
